Fire Sherman's Cannon
to start the Independence Day
Fireworks Display
July 4, 2011, in Lancaster, Ohio

Our July 4th 'Fire the Cannon" winners are"

Pam Croft of Sugar Grove, Ohio and Debbie Wagner of Lancaster, Ohio. Pam and Debbie will join the crew of the Sherman Cannon on the 4th of July.
They each will get to take the lanyard in hand and fire Lancaster's historic gun. Thanks to everyone who participated in this contest.

Location: Lancaster Ohio's Veterans Square Park
Year/Design: Parrot Rifle, 1861
Gift to: Ben Butterfield Post of the Grand Army of the Republic
Gift from: General William Tecumseh Sherman

We have reached a major milestone. Our new gun carriage has arrived and is now in storage with the gun tube. The cannon will be assembled early in 2011 and will weigh in at over 2,100 pounds. Made of heavy gauge cast aluminum, the gun carriage will never suffer the effects of weather the way wooden carriages do. The carriage and gun tube are painted with modern industrial coatings that will last for many decades.
Many thanks to JT Trailers for building our trailer of free.

It now needs the help of the citizens of Fairfield County so that it can be preserved
and remain a living part of Lancaster’s history for years to come.
